  Fernandez upgrades Falklands strategic position; promises to reinforce military presence in southern Argentina

  

  Argentine president Alberto Fernández again claimed sovereignty over the Falklands and other South Atlantic Islands, “usurped” by the United Kingdom, asking London to comply with international resolutions, since “this occupation could limit the flow of vessels between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and the access to Antarctica.”

  Tierra del Fuego students competition on Malvinas issues

  

  High School students from Ushuaia, capital of the Argentine southernmost province of Tierra del Fuego were invited to participate in a competition, “Asking about Malvinas”. The competition to mark the fortieth anniversary of the Falklands/Malvinas war was sponsored by the city's program “Young Ushuaia”, and the provincial Youth Coordination office from the Culture and Education ministry.

  Monkeypox has reached Tierra del Fuego and Magallanes Region

  

  Monkeypox has reached Tierra del Fuego and Magallanes Region in Chile. Tierra del Fuego province head of Epidemiology Office confirmed three cases in Ushuaia, one in Rio Grande and four more suspects. On the other side apparently a case has been reported in Puerto Natales, a woman who recently visited neighboring Argentina, while Chilean authorities announced that the country has enough vaccines to begin inoculation in October.

  Three companies agree with Argentina to develop offshore Tierra del Fuego gas deposit

  

  Argentina and a consortium of three international oil companies signed an agreement by which the Fenix gas field at the San Sebastián Bay will be developed in two years time with an investment of US$ 700 million. The agreement includes a decree which reinstates benefits for the hydrocarbons industry, particularly new undertakings as contemplated in Law 19,640.

  Four people were killed after an ambulance aircraft crashed upon takeoff from the airport in Río Grande, in the Argentine Province of Tierra del Fuego, Friday afternoon.

  Argentina switches on new radar to monitor South Atlantic airspace

  

  Argentine Defense Minister Jorge Taiana presided over the entry into operation of an air surveillance and control radar in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego. The equipment (model RPA -170M) was designed and built entirely in Argentina.

  A new port is to be developed in the Fuegian city of Rio Grande at a cost of US$ 210 million, which will be disbursed by a group of private companies interested in promoting trade in the area, it was reported.

  Tierra del Fuego addresses Malvinas Question issues and blasts appointment of “colonial governor Alison Blake”

  

  The Tierra del Fuego provincial Legislative held on Wednesday its first ordinary session of 2022 to approve several decrees and motions referred to the Malvinas Question, and to mark the 40th anniversary of the conflict, triggered by the invasion of the Falkland Islands by Argentine forces on April 2nd 1982.
