    Europol dismantles sophisticated network smuggling people across the English Channel

    In 2024, more than 36 000 migrants and 680 boats successfully reached the UK, up from approximately 28 000 migrants and 580 boats during the same period in 2023

    German and Belgium authorities coordinated by Europol dismantle a migrant smuggling network active across the English Channel. The operation was also supported by Italy and Eurojust. The investigation targeted a criminal network based in Germany and involved in criminal activities facilitating the smuggling of Middle Eastern and East African migrants across the English Channel with low-quality inflatable boats.

    UK Home Secretary resigns amid immigration and quotas scandal

    Ms Rudd phoned PM May to inform of her decision following a week of growing  pressure over an immigration scandal and increasing calls for her to quit.

    Britain's interior minister, Home Secretary, Amber Rudd resigned on Sunday amid claims she misled lawmakers over whether her department held targets for removing illegal immigrants in the country. “The prime minister has tonight accepted the resignation of the home secretary,” said a spokesman for the office of premier Theresa May.

    Landlords in England will be expected to evict tenants who lose the right to live in the UK under new measures to clamp down on illegal immigration. They will be able to end tenancies, sometimes without a court order, when asylum requests fail, ministers say.
