  Argentina recalls the Day of Affirmation of its Rights over the South Atlantic Islands

  

  Argentina recalled on Monday, 10 June, a new anniversary of the creation in 1829 of the “Political and Military command headquarters of the Malvinas Islands and adjacencies to Cape Horn in the Atlantic Sea”, and which has been incorporated to the official calendar as the Day of Affirmation of Argentine Rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and its surrounding maritime spaces.

  UK/South Korea sign in principle, first a post-Brexit free trade agreement

  

  The UK and South Korea have signed an in principle free trade agreement (FTA) that seeks to maintain existing trade arrangements post-Brexit. International Trade Secretary Liam Fox signed the deal with his South Korean counterpart Yoo Myung-hee in Seoul.

  Homophobic attack in London bus against gay couple; Chris is from US and Melaina, Uruguay

  

  Two women who were left covered in blood following a homophobic attack on a bus have said they will not be cowed into hiding their sexuality. Melania Geymonat, 28, from Uruguay and Chris, 29, US citizen say they were attacked by several males on the top deck of a London night bus in the early hours of 30 May after they refused to kiss one other.

  South Georgia Marine Protected Area enhancement, announced last December, comes into effect

  

  Following an announcement in December 2018, a suite of enhancements to the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands Marine Protected Area (SGSSI-MPA) have now been signed into legislation by HM Commissioner Nigel Phillips CBE. The enhanced measures are designed to further conserve the rich biodiversity found within the ocean surrounding this sub-Antarctic UK overseas territory. The new measures build on the existing MPA designated in 2012 and are based on scientific evidence considered during the first 5-year review of the MPA.
