    Uruguay confident Argentine tourists will save the Summer season

    Some 400,000 tourists more than last season are expected to spend 16% more in Uruguay this Summer

    Uruguayan tourism analysts predict a 16% growth in spending from foreign travelers during the Summer. An increase in Argentine visitors is expected given the peso's recovery against the US dollar under Javier Milei's Libertarian administration, while the Brazilian front conveys the opposite image after a recent devaluation of the real.

    Uruguayan tourism full steam ahead during Easter Week

     The country is also preparing its upcoming presentation at the Seatrade Cruise Global 2022 in Miami, Viera explained

    Some 114,000 have crossed from Uruguay over to Argentina for Tourism Week, a lay holiday version of Easter Week between April 11 and 17. According to local media, 95,000 of them were Uruguayan nationals, followed by 11,000 Argentines and 2,000 Brazilian citizens.

    Uruguay is expecting some 200 cruise calls this 2019/20 season, which is 30% higher than in 2018/19, while Montevideo has become an exchange port for incoming and outgoing cruise passengers, given its good services and connectivity, announced Tourism minister Liliam Kechichian during the official launching of the current season.

    Uruguay expects 10% increase in international tourist arrivals this summer

    “If the current trend of a more than 10% rise in tourists continues, the season is going to be better than last year,” Benjamin Liberoff told reporters

    Uruguay's deputy tourism minister said that based on current trends the number of international tourist arrivals during the current summer season, which peaks in December and January, should rise by more than 10%.
