The recent tax-info exchange agreement reached between Argentina and Uruguay will make many investors in the Uruguayan financial system take their deposits back to “safes” or “mattresses” in Argentina, warned several economists during a conference on the Argentine economy prospects and its influence on neighbouring Uruguay. Argentina may lose this tax treaty if they keep holding up the dredging of the Martin Garcia canal. Also they talk about the double taxation agreement making things complicated but its about the only part of the agreement which will directly benefit Uruguay

Uruguay keeps shooting itself in the foot so it can remain Argentina's poodle. This should lead to a collapse in Punta del Este real estate and a recession in the Uruguay economy. Mujica is a Socialist buffoon but just like Argentina the parasitic Uruguayans voted for the free lunch.

Good to see my Queen taking on the tax evaders; wish my own country would do the same in the tax havens where it has leverage, like the Cayman Islands, another “non-independent territory” half a world away

Some of you are missing the obvious point of the article which is that many Argentinians have businesses in Uruguay which are considered clean.

Also, the Argies need to provide a court order specifying the reason for the request to investigate the tax situation of certain individuals.

And, finally: assuming this 'economist' is correct that middle class Argies will take their money back to Argyland HOW are they going to get their 'tax evasion' dollars (if that is what they are) BACK through the customs and into their cars and walking along the street with it due to the dollar sniffing dogs?

You bunch are like the 'Dads Army' comedy from the old days:'don't panic, don't panic, they cried as they ran around like a bunch of headless chickens.

You have to remember one thing about economists. Put six of them in a room and you end up with 12 to 18 'solutions' NONE of them correct.

My money, literally, is in Uruguay and ON Uruguay and I don't have problems with tax here.

Unlike in the UK where I still pay taxes and we have the likes of that Scottish pratt who adores his 'queen' The Mad Bitch and his deadbeat mates sucking the life blood out of England with the subsidies of £2,000 for EVERY man, woman and child in England pays to keep these bastards in the Union.

#4 I agree with you completely. There are more tax havens in the Caribbean, including Panama, that will welcome deposits of SRLs and LTDAs with the ownership nearly difficult to determine. NO ONE WILL SEND THEIR MONEY BACK TO ARGENTINEAN BANKS! They would be insane.

And yes, my question to the pro-CFK government supporters is: Do you think the political leaders don't keep hidden assets? If you do, it shows what fools you really are.

Thinking back a while, wasn't there an issue with argieland refusing to buy back their currency exchanged in Uruguay? Is this an opportunity for Uruguay to recoup its money? And then tell the argie government to pay its own people!
