Paraguay deplored statements from Uruguayan Foreign Minister Luis Almagro who claimed before the United Nations General Assembly in New York that the landlocked country had interrupted ‘democratic order’ when it removed Fernando Lugo from the Executive.

“The Republic of Paraguay deplores statements from the Foreign minister of Uruguay who questioned with baseless arguments Paraguayan democracy and ignores the gross violations to democratic values and human rights in other countries from the region”, states an official release from the country’ Foreign Ministry.

In his speech before the UN assembly Almagro condemned “the rupture of democratic order” in Paraguay which led to the removal of Fernando Lugo by the Senate, following impeachment and his replacement by Federico Franco.

The Paraguayan Foreign ministry “rejects in all its terms” statements from Almagro considering them “in violation of the commitments and principles of the UN organization” relative to equal rights, sovereignty and non interference in internal affairs.

Furthermore Paraguay points out that as a landlocked developing nation, it belongs to the group of countries described as “vulnerable” by the UN.

Likewise with the temporary suspension from Mercosur and Unasur, Paraguay argues that it responds to an “illegitimate, arbitrary and illegal” decision.

“The detailed situation reflects with out any doubts that in Paraguay the constitutional process is being respected and Paraguay rejects point blank all reference to the breaking up of constitutional order”, adds the release recalling that the current constitutional and stable political situation was confirmed by a fact finding delegation headed by the Organization of American States Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.

These should perhaps be friends, rather than at each others throats.

Or is this just playing into a third parties hand ???

We already had the election, Lugo won the presidency and Franco the vice. Then we impeached Lugo because he was a horny, scandalous, idiot of a leader and was being manipulated by Hugo Chavez. Remember that it was nearly unanimous by both the senate and congress to have him impeached as permitted by the constitution.
