The melting of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, CFK, positive image is increasing and has fallen to 37%, while the mayor of Buenos Aires City is increasingly occupying the position of head of the opposition, according to comments from Sergio Berensztein, head of Poliarquía one of the most respected pollsters in Buenos Aires.

Berensztein made the comments during a round table on “The Political Context” at the IDEA colloquium which brings together Argentina’s leading corporations CEOs, bankers, politicians, pollsters and special guests as was the case with Brazil’s former president Lula da Silva.

“The downward tendency of the positive image of President Cristina Fernandez has deepened and now stands in the range of 37 points”, revealed Berensztein at the colloquium in Mar del Plata.

“It is a falling percentage similar to that when the conflict with the farmers back in 2008, but the intensity of the fall has become extraordinary”, said Poliarquia chief. But at the same time Berensztein explained that the descent “is not been capitalized by any leader from the opposition”.

“Maybe we could say that the only name which begins to outstand in the opposition as a reference is Buenos Aires city mayor Macri” who also is marking the rift in the Argentine electorate, but “undoubtedly his role as leader is becoming stronger”.

Macri has repeatedly clashed with President Cristina Fernandez over the transfer of services to the city’s administration, such as the transport system, but to which the mayor has refused point blank unless they are supported by the generous government subsidies which allow for cheap rates.

Berensztein also revealed that when the head of organized labour, Hugo Moyano, took distance from Cristina Fernandez over several money and political issues, but above all for trying to remove him from organized labour’s CGT, he managed to harvest strong support as one of the possible main references of the opposition arch, “but his weight has diluted to great extent”.
