They know how to treat tourists...if only AR would learn something from them.

No chance of learning anything from anyone while you have TMBOA as president.

    You have my heartfelt sympathies.

VAT at 23%? Oh dear, far too high. Poor Uruguay, but at least giving a nod to economic reality with this relief.

Rule of thumb, the higher the VAT, the crappier a country gets. UK 8% in 1979, Thatcher hiked it to 15%, then Major to. 17.5%, a 15% gimmick under Brown and now with Cameron 20%.

    3 Mr Ed

    IVA in Uruguay is 22%.

At least this is what appears on all the utility bills and receipts from fuel stations, etc.

    Mr Ed

VAT in Sweden for commodities - 25%
VAT in Denmark for commodities - 25%

Both Sweden and Denmark are higher than the UK in any of your lots available lists...

So, if you think the UK is crappy, it has little to do with the VAT...

Stevie, I said 'the higher the VAT, the crappier a country gets'. Look at Sweden and Denmark before they had high VAT and compare. look at the UK now and when it had low or no VAT and you will see it getting crappier. Watch Sweden and Denmark as their economies crumble.

Sweden btw had lower overall tax rates thapn the UK right up to the mid 1970s. It takes time to degrade an economy via tax, andAT is a major tax, one pound in six in the UK on VATable goods is tax, so it makes people poorer.
