As a fellow Irishman who had to cut short his term in 1966 due to an accident. There is something special about South Georgia for us as I think there had been six Met. Assistants there before me. After coming of Nights I used to walk around the Bay to the Graveyard and have a chat with the BOSS.
Can't walk 50 yards now. LOL
    Lovely story,slan,

What a privilege it was to visit that beautiful place. Jan Cheek loved it as a child. And under British stewardship it will be restored to a true wildlife haven.

nerosax, Faz and anyone else who is enthralled by South Georgia should join the South Georgia Association for the fellowship of like minds and keep informed on activities on the island, items of history and research.
P.S. I've never heard that place called Silly Point, but I saw the Sooties there in 1964.
