There are many rumours of a move to Arsenal for £70 million.

Really? Are Arsenal going to spend some money this season?

Last season Suarez was rumoured to be joining Chelsea which led to the joke, “If you can't eat 'em, join 'em”.

    Yup.
After years of very cautious financial management, including massive investment in the new Emirates Stadium, finally they are going to open the wallet.

Some say upto £200 million could be made available.

'snurk' at joke. Jeje! He does seemed to have reformed his bad boy ways. ...

Not good news but not surprised. Suarez took so many bad tackles during the season in England that it was inevitable that he would soon suffer a serious knee injury.
The skilful players get little protection in England as the referee's simply do not take strong enough action and are loathe to issue yellow cards let alone reds. More players in England should be sent off for foul tackles but they get away with it, time after time.

Let's hope that Suarez will be fit to play but it does not sound very promising. The World Cup will be less attractive to watch without his participation.

That is a comprehensively persuasive list to establish Suarez' status as ascribed in the above article.
People everywhere will have their own favourite players of course, that is part of the passion for the game.
However, the list you provide firmly puts Suarez as OFFICIALLY the best player in the Premiership.

    @5 smoko1
That's an interesting opinion about referees/cards/injuries. Is this from your personal perspective or is there some ongoing debate about it? Possibly in comparison to La Liga and equivalents?
I would be interested to hear more, sounds like it could possibly be the next big issue.
Are referees allowing foul play to go unpunished? Sounds quite serious.

Bah it doesn’t matter if Suarez is on time for the WC or not; Im sorry orientals but Uruguay is nothing more than the typical medium rank team that is a pre WC promise with a name or two but always end up failing to deliver; like so many times before you had your Netherlands, Portugal, England.

Spain was always the eternal candidate with very good teams in all the WC. They had to copy paste Barsa to win a WC.

You need continuity at the quarters and semifinals to become a real considerable Champion.

According to most reputable news sources Brazil are clear favourites to win, but quite a lot of money is being placed on Germany.

I think Germany can win should they avoid Spain and Italy (historically, they never beaten Italy in a competitive game). Spain can win too, should they avoid any South American team.
My Money is on Argentina or Brazil. My Heart on Uruguay.

Anyone else think Germany can do it? I am just curious and am thinking about putting a littler wager on for fun.

    Anyway, back to the article.
“It was not clear whether Suarez will recover on time for the Brazil Cup.”
I hope does recover in time, it is always great to watch fantastic players at their peak.

Suarez was the Highest Goalscorer in the Premier League this 2013-14 with a tally on 31, outstripping he nearest rival Daniel Sturridge (21 goals) by a substanial margin. He was also voted by his fellow professionals as The Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year (often called the PFA Players' Player of the Year, the Players' Player of the Year, or simply the Player of the Year). This an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English football.
So I am inclined to agree with Mercopress this time.

I think Germany has even better chances than Argentina and Italy as the record shows but Argentina almost enjoys a free highway to the semifinals (courtesy of Blatter to his friend Grondona). Germany has being brushed aside many times before and has ended up in the finals and semifinals.

    Germany ALWAYS delivers

    Never underestimate zee Germans!

They went out to Brazil early and privately buit their own training camp as they didn't trust the holders to deliver to the standards they require!
I agree both Spain and Italy are contenders. Argentina should make the semi-finals but I am not 100% convinced about Brazil having a clean run.

Is there a possibilty that Brazil will collapse under the incredible pressure? That the weight of expectation might be to overbearing?

    Any thoughts on that theory?

I think that in Brazil, the pressure of the audience is much heavier on Brazil's opponent than on Brazil. It's really difficult to win in South America being the away team. Germany is a cup team. They always perform. But their machinery is less efficient in the Brazilian heat.
As for England, their quality is still much too young. A good defence, excellent skipper and a talented attack. Italy is like England, but with better defence and a solid tactic.
Uruguay has a great defence with question mark(s) on Lugano, a poor midfield and a world class attack. As with England, we too seem to lack a solid tactic.

England will put its hope on the young ones.
Italy will do what Italy always does.
Uruguay will sing for that midfield.

    Costa Rica will upset.

South American teams are obviously favourites becuase they're used to the climate. Brazil would be my favourite followed by Argentina, Germany will be in amongst it as will Spain and I think Belgium. I don't think Italy, France or England have a chance.

You are not taking into account the fixtures. Italy will face off Spain in the quarters as Uruguay will face Brazil in the quarters. There is not much more to say about that group.

England are going to be the same losers they always are.

Italy may -just maybe- surprise Spain and that. But it is more likely Spain knocking out Argentina in the semifinals and Germany vs Brazil on the other side I would put it in a 40% Germany - 60% Brazil.

Spain vs Brazil in the final and Brazil winning that with comfort

There is no great expectation on England. It is more a 'jolly boys' thank you trip for the seniors and a chance for the young-bloods to bond as squad in an international environment. It's training for the Euros.

So it seems the general consensus here is that Brazil will win it out right. But Germany will almost definitely get to the semi finals.

Anyway the latest news reports here are that the boy Luis has already had the surgery, that it was successful but it is likely he will not be able to play for a while. .. probably miss the W C.

Also the latest rumours are that he is going to Real Madrid not Arsenal but that Arsenal are buying Benzema. .... and on and on it goes. ....

Climate will not favour anyone this time. Unlike Argentina 78 (last Cup played in this continent), when most south american players still played in their own leagues, 90% of brazilian, argentine, uruguayan and chileans play in Europe. And, as Paul noted, some matches will be hosted in NE Brasil.

Argentina would be hot favourites if they had the brazilian back four and a good keeper. Since they don't, they're “just” favourites, in the same rank of Brasil, Spain and Germany.

And Luisito is a great player with a reasonably good team behind him.

Uruguay's problem is that they don't have a talented midfielder or a second strikers that could play as a number 10.
Forlan could be that player, but his career is over,he was rubbish when he played for my club last year.

I think Suarez is that kind of striker. He creates chances. Cavani should go top, as he is a natural box-player. Uruguay lacks a midfield that gets the ball up and gives the defence a rest.

Luisito is very skilful, but I don't see him playing as an “enganche” (as uruguayans and argentines say) like Forlan did (very admirably) in 2010. Forlan was a great passer of the ball, had vision and intelligence to play as a 10 behind the strikers.

Luisito is more like Neymar or Aguero, in my opinion.
