UK agreement in principle for 'ad hoc' talks with Spain and Gibraltar

The British Government has confirmed that after the “disappointment” of delays it has now reached “agreement in principle to the terms for talks and are discussing with both the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Gibraltar how and when talks can be organized.”

Antarctica sea levels rising faster because of fresh water from melting glaciers, say researchers

Sea levels around Antarctica are rising faster than anywhere else in the southern ocean. The global average rise in ocean heights in the last 19 years has been 6cms, but the rise in seas around Antarctica is 2cms higher.

Japan's economy contracted 1.8% in second quarter; fall blamed on consumer sales tax

China exports up 9.4% in August over a year ago, but imports were down 2.4%

China's latest export numbers rose by 9.4% in August from a year earlier, beating forecasts of about 8% growth. The official data showed imports dropped by 2.4% from the year before, though, which left the country with a record surplus of 49.8bn dollars.
