Uruguay's Vazquez returns to office a decade later but with a different economic climate

Tabare Vazquez was sworn in as president of Uruguay Sunday, returning to office a decade after first leading the centre left catch-all coalition to power and drawing a curtain on folksy farmer Jose Mujica's colorful rule. Vazquez, a cancer doctor with a more buttoned-down style than the outspoken Mujica, won 53.6% of the vote in a November 30 presidential run-off, reclaiming the office he previously held from 2005 to 2010.

A coroner inquiring into the death of a former British Airways pilot has said that toxic fumes in cabin air pose a health risk to aircrew and frequent fliers. People regularly exposed to fumes circulating in planes faced “consequential damage to their health,” according to Stanhope Payne, the senior coroner for Dorset.

US economy slowdowns in last quarter, but for Wall Street it remains strong

The slowdown in the US economy at the end of last year was more pronounced than previously thought, official figures have shown. The world's largest economy grew at an annual pace of 2.2% between October and December, against a previous estimate of 2.6%, the Commerce Department said.

First squid landings in Argentina 'acceptable', but mostly Small

The first landings of squid have been reported from Argentine ports and they seem 'acceptable', although there are concerns about the 'complex' market situation. Jiggers have spent 20/25 days in high seas to complete holds but most of squid is classified as 'small' with a minimum percentage of 'medium' in the last days of February. The catches refer to South of Parallel 44.
