By Hugo Swire of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office - A year ago I spoke at a summit in London hosted by the Financial Times and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) about how the UK could work most effectively with the ‘Pacific Alliance’. Read full article

    A good point,
but I bet this article will be swamped by the dastardly argies crying foul.

    Very good news.

Swire is a positive force in LatAm - UK relations, and has correctly identified with whom the UK should be trading with.
I admire his support for the PA.

A fairly wishy-washy article. I see no problem in working with the Pacific Alliance. The problem comes close to the end of the article when these seems to be some confirmation of an association between the PA and mercosur. The history of Britain revolves around trade. The PA seems to be mostly interested in trade. That's fair enough. Mercosur is interested in political power and domination of, at first, south america. Surely everyone can see the error in any involvement with mercosur. Which mercosur member has any trade worth the name? Venezuela is trash being operated by a cretin. Argieland will be a 'province' of China in only a few years. It's difficult to determine at this stage whether this will be achieved through China owning so much argie debt that argieland will only be able to do as it's told OR whether will use its military forces. Or a combination. Urineguay is now insignificant. Balanced on a knife edge. The right decisions and it might manage to compete with Yorkshire, wrong decisions and it'll follow TDC down the tubes. Brazil has fallen into the vanity project trap. With an economy that, briefly, was larger than the tiny British Isles, it has fallen back and then chose to spend its money on pointless events.

The UK should make it clear that, if it trades with the PA members, there can be no mercosur input. It is, after all, an effective dictatorship. The UK has many reasons to leave the EU. There's another one looming. An agreement between the EU and mercosur.

There are already plenty of British people who avoid various meats and products originating in New Zealand. No halal in Britain. But New Zealand gives no choice. I haven't bought such goods from New Zealand for years. And the next move will be British people refusing to buy goods from the latam members of mercosur.

Mercosur was killed by Uruguay, Brazil and TDC ignoring the law and castigating Paraguay just to get Venezuela 'in the club'.

It would have been much better if they had all clubbed Chubby: he was on his last breaths anyway.

You see what happens when the children 'ruling' us fight among themselves?

and who the fuck cares if the UK (LOL X 1 MILLION) supports the pacific alliance?
    eh?
maybe this asshole swire did not realize that he is talking about a tiny little swampy island here.

the important thing is what the big boys support, that is china, russia, the u.s., and india and brazil in the next years.

a tiny country like england has to have a huge technological development to be considered important, like japan, korea, germany, etc.

and as the whole fucking world knows, england is stuck in the era of steam machine.

    Peruvian-cedron.

You lost the war in 1982. Get over it. Time to let go and move on.

PS. The UK has one of the biggest economies in the world and a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
Which just shows the ignorance of your childish petulant lies.

Correction, Britain built the railways and the telephone system and it put ARGENTINA on the map.

Now it's putting Argentina in its place.

Sorry Pablo - keep quacking, we're laughing at you.

“england is stuck in the era of steam machine.”

It's admirable that a large majority of the worlds airliners are powered by British steam engines.

Without them Tango 1 is screwed (oh I forget, there's other reasons it can't fly anywhere with the steam engines).

When Skylon arrives, it'll reduce the flying time to the Falklands, and by that time you'll be working in a paddy field or picking tea for your Chinese bosses.

    Have fun.

It is my current understanding that meetings are being held within Mercosur to discuss the possible explusion of Vnzla from the 'club' due to Human Rights Abuses.

However, we all know how long it takes for MercoSur to make a decision on anything...

    @11
thanks for that. So sad to see Vnzla so far down the list.
    :-(
However, it must be difficult when the govt will try to expropriate anything successful.
    Then destroy it.
    @12
    Yes, I read that.
    An excellent article.
    Highly Reccommended.
