A South African airline operator has been named the favorite to provide an air service for St Helena when its first airport opens early in 2016. But Comair, which also operates budget flights as kulula.com, will only offer flights to Johannesburg in South Africa, despite strong calls for a direct service to Europe. Read full article

    Your photo shows the tails of Comair CRJ 700 planes from the US which ceased operating in September 2012, which is not the same Comair as the South African Comair (that is supposed to operate a BOEING 737 on the St Helena service). Maybe you should spend a bit of time on getting the details right -This is not the Daily Mail!

    I flew Kulula from Capetown to Durban in a 737. Very comfortable. As we were about to disembark, the captain asked us if we would be good enough to clean up any rubbish and tidy up because they would have to do it if we didn't !

    I can imagine that long haul operators would shy off St Helena, how do they expect to fill a plane capable of getting there in one jump and capable of using the new, rather short, airstrip?

    Never going to happen.

    Unfortunately St Helena will be ruined by mass tourism.

    You posted a photo of an American airline with the same name. Wrong Airline.
    Flights to St. Helena operated by Comair South Africa (!) will most likely be by their British Airways brand with planes in British Airways livery. I would be surprised if it would be Kulula.

    As a first step a flight from/to a South African hub makes sense. The island is far from being ready for either 'high value' or 'mass' tourism.

    @6 latinflyer
    Thanks for your post.

    Please tell us more. What else can you tell us on this subject? Are you familiar with the Island?

    @ilsen
    Thank you for changing the airplane picture. Space here is too limited to elaborate in more detail. While there are many good reasons for visiting the Island, the infrastructure is still under development. The number of hotel rooms is very limited. One decent 30 rooms hotel in Jamestown is supposed to open in 2016, but plans for more upscale hotels seem to be on hold.
    One has to wait until the choice of the Airline, Comair/British Airways or Kulula will be announced. At the moment only speculations...
