Uber have emerged victorious in their bitterly fought battle against London's black taxi trade. Disclaimer & comment rulesTo an extent you can sympathise with the black cabs: they have to submit to very strict mechanical inspections which the private hire cars do not, simply an MoT test every six months (in most regions).

Drunken louts just want the cheapest fare and even argue that.
If Uber do manage to grow you can expect to see more of these fare dodgers trying it on.
Uber/Lyft is great. I have not taken a taxis since they started in my city.

If the cars or driver look dodgy you don't have to get in, you report it to Uber and they aren't driving after that.
The next wave will be driverless cars doing the same function.
It will happen sooner than anyone can imagine.
