    That's Germany's problem. Only Eurozone countries have to help with the bailouts.

    It's a shame there hasn't been more positive campaigning like this, rather than the predictions of apocalypse from the Ins and lies and shit-stirring from the Outs.

    The sort of people who lack the wisdom necessary to refrain from deliberate dangerous pathogenic exchanges should not be counted on to make sound political decisions.

    The only persons I've heard of that refrain from kissing are prostitutes, and should not be counted on to make sound political decisions.

    @5. We were referring to mass promiscuity here. Read the original article. And try to keep up.

    “Mass promiscuity here” It's your contention that prostitution is not? I did read and obviously have a clearer grasp of what you wrote than you yourself do. But, this is not the first time you've shot your mouth-off and ended up merely shooting yourself in the foot.

    @Marti Llazo

    Heh, I'm sure they are willing to risk catching a cold for the cause.

    You should be used to it living in Argentina anyway, isn't that one of those countries where you have to greet people with a kiss?

    strong between Britain and Europe ,
    tell that to the Europeans,
    Besides you don't have to be part of euroland to love them,
    if that is what one does.

    @8 “ ....Argentina anyway, isn't that one of those countries where you have to greet people with a kiss?”

    Myth. It's normally not really a kiss but rather a light pressing of the cheeks (typically) between men and women, though there are variations (e.g., a bit of noise to simulate a kiss, sometimes more and sometimes less). It ranges from a somewhat cold formality to some rather pleasant surprises.

    Here in the south (pcia Sta Cruz) in spite of the numbers of kirchnerites, the idea of a “ kiss chain” of the type described in the note would likely not get much acceptance, or it would probably be viewed with contempt by the decent and the dignified.

    Speaking of which, in recent years that has been a bit more recognition of the unhealthy component of some of the traditional practices here. I've noticed more and more people turning down the communal hierba-mate gourd and bombilla. Not much has changed for the lower classes but among the more middle-class folk who actually have some concern for their health, outside of immediate family some are starting to see that filthy bombilla for what it is and I know one family where every member has their own bombilla and mate/gourd, on the manner of individual toothbrushes. There have even been some warnings in the media here about the matter. One of those articles described a particular virus that just goes crazy for the moist hierba and grows rather enthusiastically when people try to save the dregs for the next day. Actually the mate/gourd is a great place to grow a lot of odd microorganisms (esp fungi) and of course the sub-boiling water doesn't kill all the bugs. And then there are the carcinogens that have been identified in the hierba, and the elevated esophageal cancer rates being reported for heavy consumers. But so far that hasn't made much of a dent in the practice here and it's hard to guess when it will. This is after all still a rather backward country.

    @10
    The tyre burning Argentine protesters are too dignified to kiss each other? I'm surprised.

    Is sharing the bombilla really all that dangerous? I've never heard of any problems but it would have to be pretty bad to be reported in the UK. In any case I imagine whoever is charge of public health has other priorities, like smoking. Something that is taking long enough to eliminate in countries that aren't 'backwards'.

    @11 “ The tyre burning Argentine protesters are too dignified to kiss each other?”

    No, the tyre-burners and other knuckle-draggers are still unconvinced of the utility of healthier practices. You have to move up the food-chain a ways before you find much illumination.

    Our doctor is from Uruguay and he says that up there the advice to pregnant women now is to never share a bombilla even within family. And for the rest of the family, they are counseled to not share the bombilla with anyone outside of immediate family. It will probably be a while before backwater Argentina stoops to such advice and even then they will probably blame an epidemic on the cholivians.
