Brazil in shock: Justice investigating country's major corruption dies in air crash

Brazil's President Michel Temer on Thursday evening made an official statement to mourn the death of Supreme Court judge Teori Zavascki, who was killed earlier in the day in a plane crash. Temer declared three days of national mourning in Brazil for the death of the Justice, who was in charge of the court's investigation into a wide-ranging corruption scandal.

Falklands has new Deputy Governor; ex administrator of Tristan da Cunha

The new Deputy Governor has arrived in the Falkland Islands. Alex Mitham has had a week’s handover with his predecessor, Sandra Tyler-Haywood, who leaves the Islands this weekend. Mr. Mitham who is on secondment to the Foreign and Commonwealth is no stranger to Overseas Territories; in effect he is coming to the Islands after three years as Administrator on Tristan da Cunha.

BAS will shut down Antarctica's Halley VI in winter because of ice shelf crack

World tourists reached 1.2bn last year, speared by Asians; Europe hit by security fears

The number of international tourists rose by four percent worldwide to 1.2 billion in 2016 as Asians traveled more, but security fears hit visitor arrivals in Europe, the World Tourism Organization (WTO) said. This represents the seventh consecutive year of growth since 2009, when global tourism figures declined four percent as the financial crisis and an outbreak of swine flu saw cash-strapped people stay at home.

HSBC and UBS preparing to move abroad when UK leaves the EU

Two of the largest investment banks in the City of London have confirmed that some staff will definitely have to move abroad when the UK leaves the EU. HSBC's chief executive, Stuart Gulliver, told Bloomberg he was preparing to move 1,000 staff from London to Paris. And Axel Weber, boss of Swiss bank UBS, told BBC “about 1,000” of its 5,000 London jobs could be hit by Brexit.
