Falklands' deminers welcomed and ready to begin the next phase
The BACTEC demining team was welcomed back to the Falkland Islands with a reception last Tuesday evening, hosted by the recently arrived Governor Nigel Phillips at Government House.

Catalonia dispute: Madrid sends 6.000 extra police; Barcelona appeals to Europe to mediate
Barcelona police have sealed off a warehouse said to be stocking ballot boxes, as Spain seeks to obstruct a Catalan independence referendum. The Guàrdia Urbana force was obeying an order from prosecutors to prevent the Catalan vote being held on Sunday. About 16,000 school and university students marched through Barcelona demanding that the vote go ahead.

Falklands' delegation heads for the Conservative party conference in Manchester
With the Labour party conference in Brighton behind, the Falkland Islands delegation will be moving on Saturday to Manchester for the Conservative party conference, which begins October first.

Falklands' election: eleven hopefuls registered in the first unofficial list
Eleven members of the public have so far unofficially declared their intention to be candidates for the Falkland Islands November 9, General Election. They comprise Mark Pollard (38) Jason Lewis (46) Leona Roberts (45) Stacy Bragger (33) Barry Elsby (62) Gavin Short (55) Roger Spink,(57) Roger Edwards (71) Ian Hansen (58) Teslyn Barkman (29) and Ben Cockwell (42).

Falklands' lawmaker: don’t leave dispute with Argentina to future generations
“We should not simply leave the Falklands dispute with Argentina for future generations to deal with”, was the message from outgoing Falklands Member of Legislative Assembly Mike Summers, in his final Speech to the Motion for Adjournment.
