CCAMLR fails to protect Southern Ocean
The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) has again failed to take action to protect the Southern Ocean, with no progress made on the critical issues of marine protected areas, climate change, and transshipment.

The UK's Real Living Wage goes up to £9 an hour
UK residents working for an employer who has voluntarily signed up to the real Living Wage are set for a 2.8% pay rise this week. For the first time they will receive £9 an hour. This is not to be confused with the compulsory National Living Wage, which is currently £7.83 an hour for anyone over the age of 25.

New Caledonia votes to remain French, but pro-independence militants are also celebrating
Voters in New Caledonia have rejected independence and decided to remain part of France. Late Sunday night the French government released provisional results showing 78,361 people voted No in the historic referendum, while 60,573 cast their ballot for Yes — a margin of 56.4% to 43.6%.

Buenos Aires G20 summit: US requests Uruguay authorization to station troops and aircraft
Uruguay's government asked Congress to allow United States troops and equipment to stay in country during the upcoming G20 meeting in neighboring Argentina, due to be attended by the US, Chinese, Russian and European leaders.
