AOC needs something to save her, because a lot of her constituents are not very convinced. This November will be quite remarkable because I think the political polls are delusional.
Jack, in another thread I mentioned yesterday's first full family meal a the newly completed farmhouse renovation. There were 7 adults and we pulled the corks of 4 bottles of Caballo Loco (#3 and #5) and 3 bottles of Viña Valdiveso Blanc De Noir.
Gollum would be highly approving of the five new farmhouse flush toilets (as are the women in our gypsy band) and everyone have raved about the incredible ambiance transformation. The creature is truly a broken and listless shadow of reflecting any ideas. His desperate comments are meaningless.
My greatest concern now is simply the good health of my family. Apparently there will be an effective treatment for this pandemic if it doesn't doesn't fade away on its own.
Madame is spending another night here at the farm and goes to Viña, where I'll join her this Thursday for lunch. The weather there is currently spectacular!
I greatly miss the seafood!

Claiming to look after their constituents interests, AOC and some other insignificant NYC lawmakers objected, saying it was a bad deal for NYC, not worth the USD 3 biilion in tax breaks. They also claimed they were backed by a “broad NYC citizens coalition” – made up of whom we don’t know - given tt a poll had indicated that 70% of New Yorkers were in favour of the project.
In view of the opposition, in Feb 2019, AMZ scrubbed its plans for their HQ2 in NYC…which could have brought 25,000 new jobs (with a potential to increase to 40,000), and up to USD 27,5 billion in tax revenue.
Later, Amazon announced it would open ”an office” in Queens (not the original HQ2), 'n create 1,500 new jobs, and some say, USD 10 billion in tax revenue to the State and City.
Amazon said “local politicians have made it clear they oppose Amazon’s presence and will not build the type of relationship required to go forward with the project”.
The result of all this, is that only 1,500 jobs will be created instead of 25,000, projected tax revenue will be reduced from USD 27,5 to USD 10 billion, and AOC – and of course, “Bernie” - present the notion that they have scored a victory, speculating that the benefits of Amazon’s HQ2 project (jobs, tax-revenue) wouldn't be felt immediately, nor would they be penalized if they did not comply. Vague speculation, which in Dec 2019, prompted AOC, and her buddy Sanders, to say “I told you so”.
A weak defense for a stupid move, and that is their “victory” ? just ask the question, “who has lost” ? the New Yorkers, who elected a nutty, radical bartender.

The last renovation took place in the early 1960's. The only bathroom artifact that remains from the past is my grandmother's bathtub. (We sent it to be re-enameled and learned it was made in the USA in the 1920s.)
We decided as a family to pull out the few remaining hectares of wine grapes we still farm and plant with the new table grape varieties I earlier posted about. I feel a sense of melancholy losing a part of my family legacy, but cheered by my children's enthusiasm in our business. (We'll certainly will be well stocked in firewood for the coming decade.)
We'll definitely be using grape-wood fires for our annual Independence Day celebration in September, which we'll host a large crowd.
I would first remind everyone that THINK has repeatedly defamed me as a proponent of HidroAysén, which is a complete lie. We as a family, we have been completely against the insane anti-environmental monstrosity.
As far as his silly infatuation with the idiotic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez causing irrefutable harm to her congressional district consisting a partial area of the Bronx and Queens reflects an Argentine Peronist idealism in economics.
I'm looking forward to lunching on seafood Thursday with Madame.

Greetings from the incredibly beautiful Pacific coast on what is a glorious day.
Last night's party was slightly unusual as we live in the age of social distancing and many of the attendees were in their 70s, but our hosts asked us to behave as Prussians, which meant no traditional hugs or kisses.
(The party venue was the apartment recreation room opening into the adjoining garden. At the door, each of us were issued a pair of light cotton gloves, but no one wore a mask, per the request of our 80 year old host.)
My former commanding officer told us all that he wanted to celebrate a birthday that few men are fortunate to experience — and wasn't going to allow something from China to ruin a historic milestone.
Each of us received a self published book he wrote about the English pirate Francis Drake attacking the what today is the coast of Chile during his circumnavigation of the earth. (Remarkable, because the book actually praises Drake.)
As it was a cocktail, food was severed as appetizers, but the food was delicious including the large Ecuadorian prawns and Peruvian style ceviche.
Surprisingly, despite the average age of the attendees — the party lasted well past midnight.

I just checked the Internet — and in the States you can find a '16 Opus One for about $300, which is overpriced I'm my price bracket. Saying that, I had it on a few trips a decade ago and it really is impressively outstanding. Robert Mondavi was a genius because he carefully chose and motivated talented people to excel in their work. His children however were spoiled and sadly ruined his incredible legacy.
Today, I think a '16 Don Maximiliano or a '16 Errazuriz Kai Carmenere would be far more interesting at third the price. (But then again, Brazil has a heavy import tax.)
Personally, I've fallen for Viña Arboleda's Brisa, which has really impressed me.

Ma belle jeune mariée and I spent half the morning entertained at the central market including selecting the vast array of ingredients for tomorrow's gathering of our friends we've invited for a Occitan-Catalan seafood paella and all the varied accompaniments.
We also had fun buying some amazing fruits and vegetables, that were surprising to find this time of year. Belgian endives, baby romaine lettuces, Russian Black Sea tomatoes, salad Begionias (yes, their edible), baby Sun Roses, Cuban Oregano, French Winter red shallots, Blood oranges, Honey Crisp apples and even imported mangos and Maracuya (Passion fruit) from Peru.
Ma belle mariée has been in an incredibly good mood and we've planned a late afternoon hike into the hillsides — taking a rucksack of a sourdough bagatelle, goat cheese, a bottle of red wine and a couple of goblets. We'll watch the sun set before returning as we used to do when dating in the early '80s.

In the US they go for anything between US$ 45-80 /bottle (taxed as food, not alcoholic beverage), but quite frankly, don’t believe for one second, that a 90s vintage of Romanée Conti, at USD 5,000-8,000 can be any better…Afaic, wine has reached perfection in Don Maximiano, and paying any buck over that is throwing money down the drain.

When I was in the UK representing Chile, my favorite was Penfolds Shiraz Grange. When I travelled to Europe on vacation with Madame, we chose the locally made wine of the region. (Most of which was disappointing, but we didn't really care — romance and ambiance paired with good food and culture compensates...)
Probably the worst red wine we had in Europe was the local French offerings and the best was from Spain. (I would note that we we really surprised and very impressed by the German whites we encountered.)
A couple of decades ago, most Chilean whites were mediocre at best, but today the industry has really advanced and the champenoise has soared to really world class. (Five years ago, we felt Argentina had a superior product — such as the Piatelli Brut Nature, but today Chile has risen to equal status.)
I'm still at the coast for another couple of days as its so damn beautiful here, but I'll need to examine the preparation of the soil bedding for planting the new table grape vineyards. (My son and youngest daughter are currently supervising the project, so it's very satisfying that we were in unanimous in our goals.)
Today's déjeuner was a Peruvian style ceviche with avocado and pomegranate, sweet red onion, medium picante peppers, paired with a sole fish that was swimming in the sea last night, along with Madame's fresh sourdough with a bottle of a crisp Nimbus Sauvignon Blanc — and you have heaven.
I think we all can also unanimously conclude that Terry Fuckwitt, the pathetic subterranean Gollum like creature inhabiting his mother's basement — is incapable of composing just one self-created coherent paragraph...
