HMS Hermes refuses to be scrapped; company wants to turn the former Indian Navy flagship in a museum

The dismantling of the Indian Navy's former flagship, Viraat, (ex HMS Hermes) has been kept on hold by the country's Supreme Court, which also issued notice to the company that bought the ship from the government to be made into scrap. The Supreme Court's order comes on a petition by a group that offered to buy the decommissioned carrier and convert it into a museum.

Moderate tsunami generated in the South Pacific following 7,7 magnitude earthquake

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific on Thursday, generating a tsunami that threatened island nations in the region. The quake struck at just after midnight on Thursday local time (1320 GMT Wednesday) about 415 kilometers east of Vao in New Caledonia at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

Falklands reports 15 current Covid-19 positive cases and 6,940 swab tests

The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, announced on Tuesday, February 9 the latest Covid-19 swabbing results which indicate that the total number of positive tests, since 3 April 2020, reached 53, of which 15 continue to be currently positive, all under quarantine, with an only person in the hospital.

Falkland Islands, transportation arrangements for arriving passengers

The Falkland Islands Government has informed that FIGO, (the government's office in London) will be asking southbound passengers for their onward travel arrangements from MPC to Stanley, when booking a flight. The requirement applies to arriving passengers from 15 February 2021 onwards.
