    UN delegate busy fighting corruption in Asunción

    Candice Welsch met with US Ambassador Marc Ostfuield and Seprelad Deputy Minister Carmen Pereira Bogado among other local authorities

    The regional representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the Andean Region and the Southern Cone (Undoc), Candice Welsch, has had a busy agenda in Asunción. She held separate meetings with US Ambassador Marc Ostfield and also with the Paraguayan Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering (Seprelad). In both encounters, corruption and money laundering were the main topics.

    Chikungunya kills 14 in Paraguay

    Borba said that “we are close to 18,000 cases of chikungunya”

    Paraguayan health authorities Wednesday said 14 people had died of Chikungunya while over 18,000 cases of the malady had been confirmed in the most recent outbreak which lead the Municipality of Asunción to declare an environmental emergency for 90 days as healthcare facilities were crammed.
