Evacuations ordered in Chile as wildfires run amok

Chile's National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) Wednesday ordered the evacuation of 14 communes in the regions of Ñuble, Biobío, and La Araucanía, including Nacimiento, Purén, and Contulmo, which have all been particularly affected by the forest fires.

Malvinas to be returned to Argentina soon, says Argentine Defense Minister

Argentine Defense Minister Jorge Taiana said the Malvinas Islands were to be restored “sooner rather than later... to its legitimate owners.” He made those remarks to veterans from the 1982 war attending the reopening of the Air Force's Base in Rìo Gallegos, from where converted training IA-63 Pampa III jets with fighting capabilities will “monitor and control” the South Atlantic enclave. The unit had not had combat aircraft since 1996.

United States President Joe Biden will be receiving Brazilian president Lula da Silva in the White House on Friday. The meeting is intended “to further strengthen the close relationship between the United States and Brazil,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Brazil concerned with the concentration of its foreign trade: few products and volumes mostly to China

In the last ten years, up until 2021, Brazilian export to China grew at a greater rate that those to rest of the world. From 2012 to 2021, China’s importance as an export destination for the five regions in which Brazil is divided grew exponentially, and of the 27 federal states, 21 saw their sales to China grow above the expansion of their sales to the world. In the period, however, the export basket was negatively concentrated around a few primary products.

Argentina agro-industry exports expected to drop some 28% this year because of the drought

Argentine agro-industrial exports are expected to climb to some US$ 47 billion this year, which is 28% less than in 2022 mainly because of the drought and lack of rains punishing most of the country's territory. The report is from the Argentine Agriculture for Development Foundation, FADA, based on lesser export estimates of grains, beef, and dairy produce.

Following the adoption of the Falkland Islands Environment Strategy 2021 – 2040 by the Executive Council in late 2021, there has been much work across government towards achieving the Vision of the Strategy.
