    Ms Danielle Dunne has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay in succession to Mr Ramin Navai who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment in El Salvador. Ms Dunne will take up her appointment during January 2025.

    Commonwealth Games confident on a host; Birmingham 2022, “complete success for UK economy”

    The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed that it is considering multiple proposals to Host the 2026 Games, so it was announced following the April meeting of the Executive Board, with confirmation by the end of the month. And in related news UK Department for Sports highlighted the financial success of the Birmingham Games in 2022.

    Health authorities in the United States are warning about the latest version of Covid-19 with the appearance of the so-called FLiRT variations, which represent the new version of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was detected the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in sewage samples. Between April 14 and 27, a FLiRT variant called KP.2 accounted for around 25% of the detections, up from about 10% in the previous two-week period ending April 13.

    Second general strike against Milei under way

    The Libertarian administration of President Javier Milei is going through the second general strike called for by the opposition General Labor Confederation (CGT) since it took office on Dec. 10, last year. The first such protest was staged on Jan. 24 with little success because at that time people were either on holiday or still enjoying their half-year bonuses that cushioned the predatory effects of Milei's measures on people's incomes.
