Polar Preet, loves the South Pole, now wants to trek across the Antarctic continent

A British Army officer – the first woman of color to cross Antarctica and reach the South Pole unsupported – has set her eyes on a new challenge. Captain Preet Chandi, best known as 'Polar Preet', says she now wants to trek across the continent from one end to the other.

Argentina's JMC has 431 foreign vessels on its radar

Argentina's Joint Maritime Command (JMC) has denounced the presence of some 431 foreign boats near the country's South Atlantic territorial waters limit, it was reported. Around 80% of the vessels were said to be of Chinese origin.

Argentina to develop new polar ship with Finnish consultants

The Government of Argentina Wednesday approved the allocation of funds to the Tandanor state shipyard to advance in cooperation with Finnish consultants Aker Arctic in the design and construction of a new polar ship to join the icebreaker ARA Almirante Irízar in delivering supplies to the thirteen bases in Antarctica.

Spatial Segregation of Seabirds at South Georgia

The latest edition of the South Georgia Newsletter refers to seabirds, which are amongst the most globally threatened birds, often as a consequence of incidental mortality (bycatch) in fisheries. At South Georgia, wandering albatrosses have declined since the 1970s, and are listed by the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP) as one of nine global High-Priority populations for conservation.
