  Cristina Fernandez flies to Cuba to be next to her sick daughter

  

  Ex-Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner left on Thursday for Cuba to assist her 29-year-old daughter Florencia, who is receiving medical treatment. In a dramatic video posted on her Twitter, the senator for Buenos Aires province said that her daughter was suffering from ”severe health problems” and began special treatment in Cuba last December.

  Argentine foreign minister receives next of kin who returned from “our Malvinas”

  Argentina and Colombia will host the 2020 Copa America; US proposal rejected

  

  The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has rejected a proposal from the United States and awarded the 2020 Copa America tournament to Argentina and Colombia. CONMEBOL officials meeting in Miami on Wednesday said the joint bid was accepted as a way of “bringing South American football to the fans” and would be subject to a more detailed presentation by both countries.

  Argentina forecasted to increase the wheat area planted for the 2019/20 season

  

  Argentina's wheat planting area will rise again in 2019/20, industry experts anticipated, which could mean another bumper harvest after a record wheat crop last season. The area could reach up to 6.9 million hectares, analysts and farmers said, which would be the fourth consecutive increase and a rise from 6.3 million hectares in the 2018/19 season when the country produced a record 19.5 million tons of wheat.

  Union halts operations at Argentina's biggest gold mine

  

  A strike at Canadian Goldcorp Inc’s Cerro Negro mine in Argentina has forced a halt to operations, the company said on Tuesday, calling the union’s action at its biggest mine illegal. Mining activities stopped when the strike by the Asociacion Obrera Minera Argentina (AOMA) union began on March 8, and processing is also now halted as surface stockpiles have run out, Vancouver-headquartered Goldcorp said in a statement.

  Next visit of Malvinas relatives to the Falklands takes off on Wednesday 

  

  Next Wednesday a group of relatives of Argentine soldiers fallen in the 1982 South Atlantic conflict and  whose remains were recently identified will be travelling to the Argentine military cemetery at Darwin in the Falkland Islands. Relatives will be able to mourn and pray next to the gravestones which now have the full name of their loved ones. A military ceremony will also be held to honor the Argentine soldiers buried at Darwin.
