  Falklands: Argentine human rights/political delegation to the Islands with a message of peace and dialogue

  

  At least fourteen human rights, social, religious and political leaders from Argentina are planning to travel to the Falkland Islands in mid March hoping to meet Islanders with a message of peace and dialogue. The delegation includes Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, 1980 Peace Nobel Prize, Nora Cortiñas, founder of one of the several branches in which the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo are split, and members of the Memory Commission, according to reports from Buenos Aires.

  Argentine economy finally seems to have began a rebound

  

  Argentina's economic activity rose 1.6% in December compared with the previous month, government data showed, a sign the economy likely expanded in the fourth quarter after a long recession. The economy fell 0.1% in December year over year and closed 2016 down 2.3% compared with 2015.

  Argentine-Chilean Antarctic inspectors check BAS Rothera base

  

  A team or Argentine and Chilean experts have visited Czech and British bases in Antarctica as part of the routine inspection of environment and security operations, in the framework of the Antarctic Treaty. The Argentine foreign ministry reported that the inspections took place for the second consecutive year between 19 January and 25 February.

  Argentina's squid and Patagonian grenadier research cruise in the South Atlantic

  

  Argentina's “Dr. Eduardo L. Holmberg” research vessel left for a second cruise of tooth fish, pollock, Patagonian grenadier and squid assessment. The cruise is expected to last thirty days and will be operating between 45o and 54o30' South and catching samples at depth ranging from 50 to 400 meters.

  Rosario and Liverpool mayors sign human rights enhancement agreement

  

  Mayors of Rosario, Argentina and Liverpool, Monica Fein and Joseph Anderson signed a human rights cooperation agreement on Wednesday in Liverpool, the first of its kind between Argentine and British cities since the 1982 conflict.

  Argentina's Macri in state visit to Spain to attract investors

  

  Argentine president Mauricio Macri started an official state visit to Spain on Wednesday and was received with a display of full military honors of the Royal Household at the Royal Palace. Following a meeting with King Felipe, the president left for Congress where he addressed the full house.

  Argentina commemorates 113 years in Antarctica

  

  Argentine Antarctica Day was commemorated on Wednesday February 22 with different events recalling the day, 113 years ago when the country's flag was first flown in a met station in Laurie Island, in the south Orkneys. Since then, 1904, Argentina's presence south of 60o. has been uninterrupted, said Argentine defense minister Julio Martínez at the main celebration in the Foreign Affairs ministry.

  Rosario and Liverpool twinned in promoting human rights and inclusion

  

  The Argentine city of Rosario and Liverpool in England will sign on Wednesday a cooperation agreement to jointly work in human rights and inclusion issues, the first such accord between mayors of the two countries since the end of the 1982 conflict.
