    Brazil has no plans to name new ambassador in Caracas

    Ruy Pereira was appointed ambassador in Venezuela in 2013, under the administration of ex president Dilma Rousseff.

    The Brazilian foreign ministry has no plans to send a new ambassador to Venezuela, after Ruy Pereira was declared “persona non grata” by the government of Nicolás Maduro. With the ousting of ambassador Ruy Pereira the embassy will be the responsibility of the highest ranking diplomatic in Caracas, who is the business attaché. He is the second most senior and who has spent more time in Venezuela behind the ambassador.

    Venezuela expels Brazilian and Canadian top diplomats

    “If confirmed, this decision demonstrates, once again, the authoritarian nature of the Nicolas Maduro administration,” Brazilian officials said.

    Officials in Venezuela took the first step on Saturday toward expelling top diplomats from Brazil and Canada who have been accused of meddling in the country’s politics. National constituent assembly president Delcy Rodriguez declared both Brazil’s ambassador and Canada’s charge d’affaires as persona non grata, a move which does away with their diplomatic credentials.

    Petrobras 2018/22 business plan foresees US$ 74.5bn investments

    The company said it is “maintaining the same level of investments”, and “continues to prioritize oil exploration and production projects in Brazil.”

    Petrobras' business and management plan for 2018 through 2022, approved by the Brazilian state-owned oil company's board of directors, foresees investments of US$ 74.5 billion, slightly higher than the US$ 74.1 billion projected in the previous 2017-2021 program.

    CMA-CGM take over Mercosul Line from Maersk Line

    CMA CGM and Maersk Line announced a binding agreement in June, subject to Brazilian regulatory approval and closing of Maersk's Hamburg Süd acquisition.

    The transfer of ownership of Mercosul Line from Maersk Line to CMA CGM. (Maritime Freighting Company-General Maritime Company), was completed on Friday. Mercosul is a leading player in Brazil's domestic container shipping market, with a fleet of four container vessels and around 290 people employed.

    Brazilian beef exporters expect shipments to grow 10% in 2018 after rising an estimated 9% this year despite corruption and food safety scandals that temporarily closed off major markets. Trade group Abiec on Thursday said Brazil, the world’s largest beef exporter, would likely sell 1.68 million tons of beef abroad next year, up from 1.53 million tons in 2017. Revenue is expected to rise about 11% to US$6.9 billion in 2018, after a 13% rise this year to US$6.2 billion.

    Russian wheat for Brazil as Moscow and Brasilia look to increase bilateral trade

    Brazil’s government published a decree laying out procedures importers will have to follow to be able to buy and unload Russian wheat in Brazil, a step aimed at improving trade ties with Moscow. The decree, which takes effect immediately, outlines the documents importers will have to submit to bring Russian wheat to be processed in Brazil, which had not been previously allowed.
