    Evacuations ordered in Chile as wildfires run amok

    Chilean authorities spoke Sunday of 24 fatalities, nearly 1,000 people injured, and some 800 houses destroyed in the past five days by wildfires spreading fast in amid a highly-irregular heat wave with strong winds and temperatures above 40°C in areas 500 km south of Santiago.

    Gabriel Boric said there were “indications” that some of the fires were caused by “unauthorized burning.”

    Chilean authorities Friday reported at least 13 people lost their lives amid the raging wildfire that is hitting several parts of the South American country. Two people died when a firefighting helicopter crashed during a mission and 11 others in Santa Juana.

    The Government of Chile has declared a “red alert” in the central part of the country due to the heat wave stemming from 39 major forest fires as the wave keeps spreading throughout the country, most of them in Araucania (17) but also in Bío Bío (7), Ñuble (7), Maule (4), Los Lagos (3), and one in the Santiago Metropolitan Region.

    Chilean airlines will reimburse cost of boarding taxes under certain conditions

    LATAM, Sky, Avianca, Jetsmart, Aerolineas Argentinas and COPA agreed to reimburse the boarding taxes cost for flights not done between May first 2015 and 24 December 2021

    Chile's national Consumer Service, Sernac is calling all consumers who purchased tickets directly from airlines between 2015 and 201l and did not make use of them, to claim from the companies the reimbursement of the boarding taxes paid.

    German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Santiago this past weekend from Argentina and met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font at the La Moneda Palace. Both leaders discussed bilateral issues in what was their second encounter after the one in September last in New York during the 77th UN General Assembly.
