Three weeks after setting sail from Buenos Aires the Argentine icebreaker ARA Admiral Irizar was today poised to begin breaking through 180 miles of ice to try to free the German supply vessel Magdalena Oldendorff trapped in the ice pack on the edge of Antarctica.
Argentine Foreign Minister Carlos Ruckauf signed a resolution changing the name of the Ministry department responsible for the Falklands Islands, known until now as General Directorate of Malvinas and Southern Atlantic Islands to General South Atlantic Directorate, according to press reports published in Buenos Aires today.
