Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has made its first annual donation of £1,000 to support the work of Home Base, a Fulham-based UK charity set up to help people facing homelessness as they leave the armed forces. This follows an initial donation of £5,000 made last year.

Almost 100 years after a young Argentine Navy Lieutenant succeeded in rescuing a Swedish scientific expedition stranded on Antarctica the vessel named after him set sail from Buenos Aires this morning on a rescue operation to free a German transport vessel trapped in the ice on the edge of Antarctica.
During June, twenty five vessels that normally fish in South Atlantic waters have been in Montevideo for transshipment, maintenance and other industry related operations, representing a turnover of over seven million US dollars.
The Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research, SCAR, a non profit organization of scientists deeply concerned about Antarctica was honored with the much prized Spanish International Cooperation Príncipe de Asturias (equivalent to Prince of Wales) annual Award.

2002) and participants will be looking to build contacts with the agricultural community in Scotland, profile some of the Islands rural diversification initiatives and business opportunities, as well as provide more general information about the Islands.<

The Falkland Islands, one of the most dynamic Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom, with a population of 2,379, will have a team of six competitors at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
There are tentative plans for the Duke of York, who fought in the Falklands war as a Royal Navy helicopter pilot to visit Argentina, Chile and Uruguay when he travels to the South Atlantic in November.
His itinerary has yet to be finalised and confirmed.
