  The Royal Welsh Show held annually in Builth, Wales has praised a visiting delegation from the Falkland Islands, underscoring the deep historical ties and shared heritage between the Islands and Wales. Considered more than just an agricultural exhibition, the Show is a celebration of global connections and shared heritage, and also received the visit of a Welsh speaking couple from Gaiman, Argentine Patagonia.

  Falklands, winners of regional student competition who will spend a week in the Islands

  

  The Falkland Islands Government and the British Embassies in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s regional student competition. Participants from the four countries were asked to submit a short video in English, in which they answered the question: “Why would I like to meet my neighbours in the Falkland Islands?”.

  Looking forward to a new era of constructive cooperation within the bilateral relationship, characterized by improved dialogue and confidence-building measures, the UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, Diana Mondino, met in New York on 24 September and made progress towards a broad agenda covering different issues relating to the South Atlantic. It is agreed that the formula on the safeguards of sovereignty in paragraph 2 of the Joint Statement of 19 October 1989 applies to this agenda and its outcomes.

  HMS Protector involved in practicing boarding operations with navies from four countries

  

  Ice Patrol HMS Protector has provided the perfect training platform during Exercise Unitas, the world's longest-running multinational maritime exercise.   Falklands, confirmed case of avian influenza in Surf Bay, close to Stanley

  

  The Falkland Islands Director of Natural Resources has released the following, “On Monday 16 September 2024 swabs that were taken from a dead Gentoo penguin on Surf Bay were tested and returned positive for HPAI. Given that this is an isolated case of one single bird, that is more than 1km from poultry or a colony, a level 1 response will be followed and a full protection zone will not be declared.”
