  Falklands: road closures on Thursday and Friday for Liberation Day celebration

  

  The Royal Falkland Island Police would like to inform the public that on Thursday 13 June 2024 between 2:00pm – 3:00pm Ross Road will be closed from Barrack Street up to Reservoir Road junction. There will be no access via Cable Street.

  Argentine Foreign Ministry highlights June 10 Malvinas Sovereignty Day

  

  Argentina's Foreign Ministry issued a statement Monday on the 195th anniversary of the establishment of a garrison known as the Political and Military Command in the Falklands/Malvinas Islands in the name of the Province of Buenos Aires. The settlement remained there until it was displaced in 1833 by a stronger British force. The document reviewed Argentina's claims following that event.

  We need to “Awaken new Depths”: UN invitation on World Oceans Day celebrations

  

  On Saturday the South Atlantic Environment Research Institute, SAERI, invited the Falkland Islands community to celebrate Oceans Day, and create awareness of how much the South Atlantic islands depend on them. According to Resolution 63/111 of December 2008, the UN General Assembly designated 8 June as World Oceans Day. And “Awaken New Depths” is the theme for World Oceans 2024.

  The Nodosa Shipyard at Marín in the Galician region of Spain has floated off one of the three large factory vessels it has under construction.

  The South Atlantic Environment Research Institute, SAERI, has extended an invitation to the Falkland Islands community to celebrate Oceans Day on Saturday, June 8th.

  This Thursday, June 6, the Falkland Islands will also be joining the D-Day 80th Anniversary of the beach landings in Normandy with the lighting of a beacon at 5:15 PM, under the motto of, “A shared moment of celebration”.

  Falklands, Arrival and transportation of the Sea Harrier and Lynx helicopter

  

  We would like to advise the public that a Sea Harrier and Lynx helicopter will be transported to Stanley at the following times. The aircraft are being moved by a team from the Joint Aircraft Recovery and Transportation Squadron (JARTS) and are being helped by Big B’s Haulage, and the Haulage and Groundworks section of the Falklands Islands Company.
