  Argentine Foreign Ministry summons British Ambassador over South Atlantic moves

  

  The Argentine Foreign Ministry summoned British Ambassador Kirsty Hayes to express the “concern” of the government of President Javier Milei over recent unilateral actions taken by the United Kingdom in the South Atlantic, including Foreign Secretary David Cameron's recent visit to the Falkland/Malvinas Islands and London's announcement to expand the Marine Protected Area.

  Falklands sends more firefighters and FIDF to combat fire at Sea Lion Island

  

  Falkland Islands firefighters continued to fight the fire at Sea Lion island over the weekend. On Monday 11 March additional firefighters have been sent to Sea Lion Island to provide further support. Members of the FIDF, Falkland Islands Defense Force, are also being sent out to provide logistic support for the firefighters.

  Argentine Coast Guard charges for air rescue of South Korean fisherman

  

  A crew member from a South Korean vessel operating in the South Atlantic was air-evacuated by the Argentine Coast Guard and hospitalized in Trelew following an emergency case of appendicitis.

  Falklands appoints Explosive Ordnance Advisor; mines found on Hell's Kitchen beach

  

  Following the sitting of the Falkland Islands ExCo on Tuesday 27 February, a phased clearance proposal from Fenix Insight Limited was approved. The proposal includes the provision of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Advisor, following the discovery of a number of mines at Hell’s Kitchen beach on the designated Government Reserve, located on the Murrell Peninsula.

  Falklands budget increase for national sports facility including artificial ice for skating ring

  

  In 2019 the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and the National Sports Council (NSC) agreed that investment in sports in the Falkland Islands was a key priority and a dedicated sports facility should be developed. FIG’s technical experts calculated that the cost of the facilities that would be required to future proof the facility would be around £6-£10m depending on detailed specifications.
