    New Spanish government surprises Gibraltar at C24 calling for bilateral talks with UK

    The new facility for the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), US’s de facto embassy in Taiwan, has a cost of US$ 250 million, and will open formally later this year.

    While the world watches the summit between president Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un unfold, another significant event will take place elsewhere in Asia. On June 12 in Taipei, Taiwan and the US will jointly mark the establishment of a new facility for the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the US’s de facto embassy in the country. Politicians from both nations are attending a ceremony to commemorate the US$ 250 million complex, which will open formally later this year.

    Falklands' commercial aircraft experiences minor incident

    FIGAS has a fleet of five Islanders, one of which is a Maritime Patrol aircraft

    The Falkland Islands Government Air Service has informed that at 10:55am on Monday 11 June 2018, a FIGAS plane was involved in a landing incident on Beaver Island. No passengers or crew have been injured however, there is suspected damage to the aircraft.

    UK Overseas Territories to host Student Conference in London

    Attendees at the 2017 conference were asked to participate in discussions on the potential impact of Brexit on Territories.

    Students from the UK Overseas Territories are being invited to submit minute-long videos about their territory and its ‘Identity’ as part of an event to be hosted at the Natural History Museum in London in November 2018. This will be the third event of its kind organised by the UK Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA), after events in late 2015 and 2017 hosted at University College London and the London Maritime Museum respectively.

    Spain accepts rescue boat with stranded migrants in the Mediterranean

    Spain's new Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez agreed to allow the ship to dock in its eastern port of Valencia.

    Spain will welcome a ship with 629 migrants aboard after Italy and Malta refused to let the vessel dock in their ports. The migrants were saved by the French charity SOS Mediterranee on Saturday and were stranded in the Mediterranean Sea when Matteo Salvini, the new Italian interior minister, reportedly refused to allow the vessel to dock at Italian ports.
