  Buckingham Palace to undergo US$ 455m renovation: not all taxpayers pleased to pay the bill

  

  Buckingham Palace will undergo a ten-year US$ 455 million renovation process set to begin in April and needed to prevent potentially catastrophic building failure. It will replace decades-old wiring, radiators and lead pipes that currently put the 775-room palace at risk for fire, flood and other dangers. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who turned 90 in April, will stay in residence during the makeover.

There are fears that Congress while passing anti corruption measures would also include in an unofficial amnesty for existing cases.

  British government sells 721m Lloyds shares; stake down to 8%

  

  The British government has taken advantage of recent share price strength and sold 721m Lloyds Banking Group shares. The share sale reduces the government’s stake in the lender to just under 8%. In total, the taxpayer owns a cool 5.7bn shares in Lloyds.

  Uruguay ratifies OAS convention for human rights protection of the elderly

  

  Uruguay became the first member state of the Organization of American States (OAS) to deposit the instrument of ratification of the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Elderly Persons. The Permanent Representative of Uruguay, Hugo Cayrús, recalled that the legislature of his country ratified the Convention in September.

  Malcorra confirms Falklands' representation in UK delegation to Red Cross discussions in Geneva

  

  Argentine foreign minister Susana Malcorra confirmed on Tuesday that next month there will be a meeting with representatives from the British government to advance in the agreement to start rolling the humanitarian mission headed by the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, for the identification of former Argentine combatants buried at the Darwin cemetery in Falklands and which remain as unknown soldiers. The minister also said that Falklands will be part of the UK representation.
