  By Alex Calvo (*) - Chinese Leader Xi Jinping’s state visit to the United Kingdom has been met with grand-sounding headlines, including references to a “golden era”. Public statements by both governments have focused on growing economic links, while some voices referred to human rights and US commentators expressed their concern at London’s closeness to Beijing at a time of increased tensions in the Indo-Pacific, above all the South China Sea.

Whoever wins will be putting an end to twelve years of Kirchnerism which on Sunday received an unexpected and surprising trashing.

  UEFA unanimously endorsed Infantino as candidate to FIFA presidency

  

  UEFA's executive committee on Monday unanimously endorsed Gianni Infantino to stand for world football's top job. The move, coming less than 10 hours before FIFA's midnight deadline for presidential bids, followed an emergency UEFA conference call of European football's top executives on Monday morning and followed consultation with national federations from “across the global football community”.

  Comedian cowboy who wanted to become president, finally makes it in Guatemala

  

  Comedian Jimmy Morales won a landslide victory in Guatemala's presidential race Sunday despite having no political experience, after a campaign upended by a corruption scandal that felled the outgoing president. Morales, a comic actor and TV personality, declared victory after election officials released the resounding results: 68% of the vote for the conservative candidate to 32% for former first lady Sandra Torres.

  Son of Lula da Silva's offices raided as part of investigation into tax fraud

  

  Brazilian police on Monday raided the offices of a company belonging to a son of former president Lula da Silva as part of an investigation into tax fraud. The raid was part of a broader operation involving about 100 agents who descended on offices in the cities of Sao Paulo, Piaui and Maranho armed with arrest warrants and orders to seize documents and accounting records.

  Argentina's presidential runoff candidates have agreed to a debate scheduled to take place on 15 November, a week before voting day.
