  “Chavez preaches Socialism but spends like a rich capitalist”, Venezuela Transparency

  

  One morning October last year two agents from the Venezuelan presidency cabinet left on a special mission from the Miraflores Palace (seat of the Executive). They headed a few blocks away to the Central Bank to pick up five million dollars cash, expenses-money for the coming international tour of President Chavez to Moscow, Kiev, Teheran, Damascus and Tripoli.

  Thousands demonstrate at the Conservatives’ conference in Manchester

  

  An estimated 35,000 people have turned out in Manchester to demonstrate at the governing Conservative Party's annual conference, which opened on Sunday. The march was organised by the Trades Union Congress, which billed it as a rally for “the alternative - jobs, growth, and justice”.

  Brazilian president calls on Central bank for “a cycle of interest rate reductions”

  

  Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff made on Friday her strongest call yet for the central bank to continue cutting borrowing costs. At an event in Sao Paulo she said it was “inadmissible” for policy makers not to take into account the possibility of a recession and even a depression in the global economy.
