    German firms ideally want the UK to stay in a customs union after Brexit, a powerful German industry group says. BDI said it would prefer a deep form of integration between Britain and the EU after Brexit. It had previously said the integrity of the single market for remaining European Union member states should be a priority.

    Gibraltar lowers the EU flag and flies the Commonwealth colors

    Gibraltar and UK are leaving the EU in 2019 and Gibraltar's policy has been to expand ”our links with the Commonwealth at the same time.”

    The flag of the European Union at different points in Gibraltar was lowered over the weekend and replaced by the flag of the Commonwealth, marking Commonwealth Day. It has been traditional for the Commonwealth flag to fly on that day over No.6 Convent Place, the seat of Government in Gibraltar.

    Hammond: no end to austerity: surpluses will be used to lower UK debt

    UK is now running a surplus of £3.8bn in its current budget - the money borrowed to fund day-to-day spending rather than long-term investment - according ONS.

    British Chancellor Philip Hammond has rejected calls by Labour and some Conservatives to announce the end of austerity in his spring statement on Tuesday. He is expected to unveil the smallest budget deficit since 2002, thanks to better than expected public finances.

He was unveiling draft guidelines for the EU side of Brexit trade talks.

    Clause 24 purports to give Spain a veto on the application to Gibraltar of the transitional period and of the future UK- EU relationship agreement.
