  Chilean Army clearing antitank and antipersonnel mine fields in Tierra del Fuego

  

  The Chilean Army is currently clearing four fields planted with anti-personnel mines in Tierra del Fuego and will move to another four once the job is finalized, reported the Commander Gonzalo Echeverria, from the 5th Engineers Battalion seated in Punta Arenas.

  Over 15.600 mines in 83 fields remain in the Falkland Islands, says UK Defence

  

  Some 83 minefields and suspected hazardous areas remain in the Falkland Islands with over 15.600 mines remaining, which were laid by the Argentine forces during their 74 day occupation of the South Atlantic Islands in 1982.

  Falkland Islands De-mining Pilot Project – Completion of Phase 1

  

  Completion of the Falkland Islands Programme phase 1 is now a reality. The De-mining Contractor, BACTEC International Ltd, has persevered through one of the coldest and wettest summers to deliver a successful project within the single austral summer period that was demanded within the contract. Like all demanding programmes, many lessons have been learned but only a few will be elaborated in this article.
