    New Faces, Same Objective: Falkland Islands Association AGM in London

    Last week saw the first face-to-face AGM of the Falkland Islands Association since the pandemic began in 2020. It was held at the Abbey Centre in Westminster. About fifty members were present in person. But another fifty took part - some of them from the Falklands – via Zoom. This was a major improvement on earlier AGMs when decisions could be taken only by those actually present. All future AGMs will be done this way.

    Falkland Islands Association - Britain did not expel an Argentine population in January 1833 when Britain re-asserted its sovereignty in the Falklands. But no piece of Argentine propaganda has been more successful than its falsehood that Britain expelled an “Argentine population”.

    Battle Day in London

    Falklands Government Representative Ms Sukey Cameron and Mr Andrew Rosindell MP go forward to lay their wreaths for the FI Government and the FI All-Party Parliamentary Group

    The annual Falklands memorial service at the Cenotaph took place on the 9th December under a brilliant cloudless sky. This commemorates all those who gave their lives liberating the Falklands from Argentine occupation in 1982. But it originally commemorated the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands, on the 8th of December 1914, and those who gave their lives then.

    Battle Day marked in the Falkland Islands 103 years on

    “Falkland Islanders remember those who lost their lives in the famous Battle of the Falkland Islands over a century ago”.

    Residents of the Falkland Islands annually mark one of the early major naval battles of the First World War, which took place off the coast of the Islands. This year the event was commemorated with a traditional parade, made up of Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force.

    Liberation Day Reception, London Gratitude for the Past, Hope for the Future

    Falkland Islanders and their supporters met in London on the 13th of June for the annual Liberation Day Reception. This time it was special - it marked the 35th anniversary of the war. Guest of honour was Sir Alan Duncan, just re-appointed as Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for the Falklands; this was his first outside engagement.

    A Positive Report on The Falklands

    An update on the progress of the Falkland Islands’ economy has been given to the Falkland Islands Association at their annual general meeting in London. Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Mike Summers indicated that all aspect of the Islands development were doing well.

    A Positive Outlook for the Falklands at FIA's annual general meeting

    The Falkland Islands have received assurances of sustained support from the British Parliament and from the Falkland Islands Association at that organisation’s annual general meeting in London where members were given a positive report of progress and economic development in the Islands.

    Falklands' Battle Day commemorated in London

    Battle Day was commemorated in the traditional manner at the Cenotaph in central London on Saturday 5th December. The traffic was stopped in Whitehall, and the service was conducted by former Rector of Christchurch Cathedral in Stanley the Rev. Dr. Richard Hines.

    Falkland Islands Association Honorary Secretary Colin Wright obituary

    Colin Wright had a long interest in Antarctica and the Falklands and joined FIA in 2004

    It is with great regret that we have to report the death of Colin Wright, Honorary Secretary of the Falkland Islands Association (FIA), on 30 September 2015. He will be sorely missed by his many colleagues and friends.
