  South Georgia ‘77 “Operation Journeyman”, a drill for the recovery of the Falklands in 1982

  

  The July edition of the South Georgia Newsletter recalls a major British military and political event in the South Atlantic has been largely overlooked by the region’s history books. A Royal Navy task force, codenamed Operation Journeyman, was deployed to the waters around South Georgia and the Falklands in 1977 following the occupation of Southern Thule in the South Sandwich Islands by 50 Argentine “scientists”.

  US Noble Energy farms in to explore for oil in east and south Falklands’ waters

  

  London AIM listed Falkland Oil and Gas announced it has reached an agreement to farm out a 35% stake in most of its Falkland Islands’ exploration licenses to the US Noble Energy to help fund its drilling plans off the Islands.

  Argentina presents official protest to UK over Malvinas cemetery vandalism

  

  The Argentine foreign ministry confirmed in a release that it had delivered an official protest to the United Kingdom repudiating “the profanation of the monument” in Darwin, Falkland Islands, to the memory of the Argentine combatants killed during the 1982 Malvinas war.

  B&S abandons south Falklands oil and gas exploration; FOGL takes over

  

  After two disappointing results, Borders & Southern has officially completed its deep water drilling program in the South Falkland Islands basin, the company announced on Tuesday. The company said well Stebbing has been “successfully plugged and abandoned,” bringing to an end the Company's current two well drilling program.

  Argentina plans to explore for oil and gas next to the Falklands

  

  As part of its “Malvinas noose tightening” policy the Argentine government is planning an international tender to offer licenses to explore for oil near the Falkland Islands, reports Buenos Aires main daily Clarin in its Monday edition, citing a letter to Congress by Cabinet chief Juan Manuel Abal Median.
