British Prime Minister David Cameron reiterated before Parliament his support for the Overseas Territories, including the Falkland Islands, and their right to remain British. Cameron made special mention to the fact that next year in the anniversary of the liberation of the Falklands “which will be a moment for genuine celebration in all Overseas Territories”

Argos steps down from the current Falklands oil exploration round

Argos Resources Limited, the Falkland Islands based exploration company focused on the North Falkland Basin, reported on Tuesday it has decided not to participate in the current drilling campaign in the area with the Ocean Guardian rig, which is now likely to end in December 2011.

Ice Patrol HMS Protector steaming for its deployment to Antarctica

The Royal Navy's new ice patrol ship, HMS Protector left Portsmouth Monday for a seven-month deployment surveying and patrolling the frozen continent of Antarctica. The Argentine government has stepped up its official blockade policy against the Falkland Islands warning Spanish fishing vessels are operating ‘illegally’ in the South Atlantic, since they have not requested licences from the Argentine government, and controls over those activities will continue.

New drilling in Falklands to confirm southern extension of Sea Lion oil find

Rockhopper Exploration announced Monday the spudding of its last well of the current successful drilling round in Falkland Islands waters. The well 15/15-4 in the North Falkland basin is situated on Licence PL004b in which Rockhopper will earn a 60% interest following the drilling, with Desire Petroleum holding a 40% interest.
