Argentine immigration authorities Wednesday granted residence to Cuban migrant Yamila Socorro Molina, who lives in the Malvinas/Falkland Islands, it was reported in Buenos Aires. Migrations Director Florencia Carignano said it was a “historical precedent.”
The Argentine government's victory cheering and bragging about a joint declaration from two continents on the Falklands/Malvinas issue has turned out to be a brief midwinter dream. This was strongly confirmed by the British Foreign Office and the European Union.
Argentina has announced it will finance 130 million Pesos (some US$ 250,000 at the current free market exchange rate) for Project EAAF 2023 which refers to Phase 3 of the Humanitarian Project for the identification of fallen combatants buried in the Falkland Islands.
British Foreign Minister for the Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley MP gave a statement, on 23 June, to the Organization of America States in response to the Argentine Government's draft declaration on the Falkland Islands:
Chinese ambassador to the United Nations Geng Shuang has backed Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands and called on countries to abandon “colonial thinking”, warning of its serious implications for the international order.
Uruguayan opposition rejected an annual invitation from the UK embassy in Montevideo for lawmakers from all political parties represented in Parliament, to visit the Falklands/Malvinas Islands. The ruling coalition in Uruguay, made up of five parties accepted the invitation.
“If Argentine president Alberto Fernandez insists on recognizing coup-monger Pedro Castillo as the legitimate president of Peru, we should definitively say that the Malvinas islands are not Argentine, but British.”
The Argentine foreign ministry is planning to release a Yearbook, on the 40th anniversary of the Falklands/Malvinas war, reporting on all the activities displayed both domestically and internationally, with the purpose of honoring all combatants and Veterans, plus emphasizing the inalienable sovereignty rights of Argentina over the Islands, usurped by Britain in 1833. The launching date will take place on 3rd January 2023.
Among the several issues addressed by the UN Fourth Committee was the draft resolution titled “Dissemination of information on decolonization”, contained in Chapter XIII of the Special Committee’s report. The text was approved by a recorded vote of 143 in favour to 3 against (Israel, United Kingdom, United States) and 1 abstention (France).
On Tuesday, Argentine president Alberto Fernandez addressed the United Nations General Assembly and in his long speech as usual there was a special demand for Argentina's legitimate sovereignty rights over the Falklands and other South Atlantic Islands.
