  Falkland Islands Land Mines, how they are cleared and blown up

  

  British Forces Network reports how a specialist de-mining team is clearing and exploding a hoard of land mines from the Falkland Islands landscape – out of more than 30,000 laid the Argentine forces during the 1982 conflict.

  Foreign minister Jorge Faurie strongly denied in Congress on Wednesday that the Argentine government was ready to “handover” the disputed Malvinas Islands to the British, and likewise defended the current proximity policy of president Mauricio Macri administration towards the South Atlantic issue.

  “Malvinas Veterans are increasingly recognized for their valor and courage”

  

  The Argentine Army Chief of Staff said he perceives a greater recognition from society towards Malvinas veterans, and this recognition, with time, is increasing. Lieutenant General Claudio Pasqualini made the statement at Wednesday's traditional meeting of the Buenos Aires Rotary Club, which on this occasion had another special guest at his table, British ambassador Mark Kent.

  Call for Evidence: UK program to support nature in British Overseas Territories

  

  A ten week Call of Evidence was launched by the UK Government on Friday, to gather knowledge on safeguarding nature in the UK Overseas Territories. Many of the Overseas Territories are globally significant in their ecological richness, containing over 90% of UK’s marine and terrestrial nature. They are hotspots for biodiversity with an estimated 3,300 endemic species, but they are also highly vulnerable to environmental change.

  Falklands' veteran discharged because of his sexuality suing MoD for the return of his medals

  

  A Falklands veteran forced out of the Royal Navy over his sexuality plans to sue for the return of military honours. Joe Ousalice, 68, served for nearly 18 years but was discharged in 1993 when there was a ban on LGBT people serving in the armed forces.

  Falklands' lawmakers travel to the UK to address a long agenda including Brexit

  

  This month five Falkland Islands lawmakers, elected Members of the Legislative Assembly, according to a release from the Islands' government are travelling to the UK to have a series of key meetings with the oil industry, trade partners and UK parliamentarians, and to reiterate the need for a good deal for the Falkland Islands in the context of continuing Brexit negotiations.

  Falklands receives an ambassador-promoter for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games

  

  The promotion for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games has reached the Falkland Islands, with a message of peace and invitation to attend the event. In effect towards the end of last season, Falkland Islands Holidays were asked by a partner tour operator - Beijing Up Travel - to accommodate a rather interesting visitor.

  Loligo squid season in Falklands with over 51.000 tons while iIlex falls

  

  The first season of the two loligo (Falklands calamari) seasons of 2019 closed with total catches of 51,000 tonnes, a 10,000 increase on the first season of 2018 and less than 30,000 tonnes short of the total for both 2018 seasons, 78,913 tonnes.

In the world, there are 17 species of penguins with Southern hemisphere as their natural habitat. April 25 was chosen as World Penguin Day as it marks the date when Adelie penguins begin their migration northward toward Antartica.

  Falklands record season of cruise visitors: 62.505 and expects 70.000 in 2019/20

  

  Representatives from all sectors of the Falkland Islands tourism industry met at Government House on Wednesday evening for the annual presentation of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) awards and to celebrate a cruise ship season which brought 62,505 passengers to the islands.
