  UK defence and security relationship underlined at Chile´s Exponaval 2016

  

  Innovation, partnership and technology transfer are the main themes as the UK is showing a strong commitment to the UK/Chilean defence relationship by sending two Royal Navy ships to Exponaval 2016 in Valparaiso, Chile. The Type 23 Frigate HMS Portland is making its first visit to Chile along with Royal Fleet Auxiliary RFA Gold Rover.

  HMS Portland back in UK after seven months patrolling including Falklands

  

  The crew of the Royal Navy warship HMS Portland returned home to a rapturous welcome in Plymouth on Friday after a successful seven-month deployment to West Africa, the Falkland Islands and the Caribbean. The vessel that was replaced by HMS Iron Duke in its Atlantic deployment spent four weeks in the Falklands.

  First woman commander of a Royal Navy warship removed for alleged breach of social conduct code

  

  The first female commander of a major Royal Navy warship is understood to have left her vessel after allegations of an affair with one of her officers. Cdr Sarah West, 42, was coming to the end of a seven-month deployment in the Atlantic on board the Type 23 frigate HMS Portland.

  Atlantic patrol HMS Portland busy in Angola and South Africa

  

  The Plymouth based frigate, HMS Portland currently deployed on South Atlantic tasking reached this week South Africa's Cape Town where she was involved in promoting Britain and in charity activities. Previously she made a short stop in the Angolan capital, Luanda to highlight UK’s relationship with Angola and provide training to Angolan Navy personnel.

  HMS Portland, first Royal Navy visit to Sao Tomé and Príncipe in 29 years

  

  HMS Portland on Atlantic patrol, became the first Royal Navy Ship to visit São Tomé and Príncipe in 29 years when she anchored off the islands for a two day visit. The last Royal Navy Ship to visit the former Portuguese colony was the survey vessel HMS Herald in 1985. Prior to that, the last recorded visit of a Royal Naval Warship was in 1889.
