The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) announced on Thursday the appointment of Gina Greer as Executive Director. Gina will lead the Secretariat and work with IAATO’s Executive Committee to further the association’s mission of advocating and promoting safe, environmentally responsible private-sector travel to Antarctica.
The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators has announced robust new restrictions on commercial drone use in Antarctica. The constraints, voted in at IAATO’s annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa (April 30 – May 3), mean those using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for commercial purposes on IAATO vessels will have new restrictions limiting piloting opportunities.

The Antarctica season beginning in November is likely to be the last one as it has been known. Proposed changes to the type of fuel ships are allowed to burn and carry in this fragile ecosystem have now become a reality, making the future of big cruise ships in Antarctica uncertain.
