    Lisa Kelley, head of operations, IAATO, called it 'the perfect support tool for IAATO staff in the field.

    The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators launched a free iOS and Android app for staff guiding visitors in Antarctica that makes it quick and easy for users in the field to access essential information, without the need for a phone signal.

    Growing number of Chinese tourists visit Antarctica, but with carbon credits

    Chinese tourists fly to Ushuaia where they will board a cruise for a tour of the Antarctic Peninsula, or combined with the Falklands and South Georgia

    The number of Chinese visitors to the Antarctic Peninsula is growing rapidly, adding to concerns over the fragile ecosystem. It’s almost a three-week trip and will cost at least 100,000 Yuan (US$15,000), and before a foot is set on frozen land, special boots are needed to walk over a sponge mat soaked in disinfectant. Besides this season Chinese tourists will have to purchase carbon credits to offset emissions.

    IAATO and Argentina step up collaborative efforts to promote responsible tourism

    IAATO and the Argentine government look forward to further talks about the Ushuaia Antarctic Gateway to promote sustainable tourism growth.

    Improvements to Ushuaia Port services and future collaboration between the Antarctic cruise industry and the Argentine government were discussed last week at a meeting organized by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and the Fuegian Institute of Tourism (In.Fue.Tur).

    IAATO appoints New Executive Director, Dr Damon Stanwell-Smith

    Damon began his career as a marine biologist, gaining a PhD with the British Antarctic Survey, later heading programs at UNEP-WCMC

    The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Damon Stanwell-Smith as Executive Director. Damon will lead the Secretariat and work with IAATO’s Executive Committee to ensure the association is functioning according to its mission of safe, environmentally responsible private-sector travel to Antarctica.

    IAATO members vote to develop an Antarctic conservation plan

    IAATO's 25 years pioneering performance recognized with place-names in Antarctica

    The place-names selected includes a group of islands in the Grandidier Channel named the IAATO Islands

    The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) has been recognized in a recent suite of Antarctic place names made by the United Kingdom.The place-names selected for inclusion in a place-naming theme for the pioneers of safe and environmentally responsible Antarctic tourism, includes a group of islands in the Grandidier Channel named the IAATO Islands, to reflect the organization’s role, over the past 25 years, in advocating and promoting the practice of safe and environmentally-responsible Antarctic tourism.

    Dr. Lisa Kelley, top expert in polar operations, named IAATO's Operations Manager

    Lisa has worked in the polar tourism industry for over 15 years, successfully leading expeditions since 2007 for IAATO member operator, Lindblad Expeditions.

    Antarctica visitors increase 4.6% in 2015/16; IAATO celebrates 25th anniversary

    American and Australian visitors remained the most numerous, accounting for 35.5% and 11% of the total number of visitors.
