  Argentina and Japan agreed on Monday to speed up negotiations for a bilateral investment accord as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties between “strategic partners”.   The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would be “meaningless” without US participation, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe said as United States President-elect Donald Trump announced he planned to quit the pact. PM Abe’s comment on Monday (Tuesday morning) came shortly before the Mr Trump released a short video about his plans for his administration, including an intention to have the US drop out of the TPP pact.

  Japan’s east coast, near Fukushima - the very site that witnessed the devastating 2011 earthquake, followed by a tsunami that claimed closed to 19,000 lives - was jostled by yet another massive quake on Tuesday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey has measured the earthquake at magnitude 6.9, while Japan’s Meteorological Agency placed the earthquake at magnitude 7.3 and said it occurred at 6 am local time and was measured at a depth of 6.2 miles.
