    AP Moller-Maersk cutting jobs as global shipping business declines strongly

    The Danish company said in a trading update last week that there had been “significant pressure on rates” in the past few months.

    AP Moller-Maersk announced it will be cutting 3,500 jobs because of a downturn in business. This adds to another 6,500 jobs cut earlier this year. The Danish company one of the largest global shipping enterprises said profits plunged 92% and a policy of rigorous containment had to be applies. It said “worsening” prices for shipping by sea required further job cuts.

    CMA-CGM take over Mercosul Line from Maersk Line

    CMA CGM and Maersk Line announced a binding agreement in June, subject to Brazilian regulatory approval and closing of Maersk's Hamburg Süd acquisition.

    The transfer of ownership of Mercosul Line from Maersk Line to CMA CGM. (Maritime Freighting Company-General Maritime Company), was completed on Friday. Mercosul is a leading player in Brazil's domestic container shipping market, with a fleet of four container vessels and around 290 people employed.

    EU and US agree to Maersk Line acquiring Germany's Hamburg Sud, expert in South America

    Maersk estimates that combined the two companies will be able to realize annual operational savings of US$ 350/400 million during the first two years

    Container shipping company Maersk Line will pay EUR 3.7 billion for its acquisition of smaller German rival Hamburg Sud, including all subsidiaries and associated shipping companies. The boards of Maersk Line and the Oetker Group, owner of Hamburg Sud, approved the proposed deal, which has been given the green light by the European Commission and the US Department of Justice.

    Maersk Lines leaving Montevideo port because of logistic operations problems

    Maersk contracted bathymetry surveys, and reached the conclusion that the area was “not safe enough” for the its vessels, particularly docking operations

    Maersk Lines, one of the world's leading shipping line has announced it won't be operating any longer in the port of Montevideo, Uruguay, because of logistic problems with the operations of its vessels.
